Driving in Montenegro is generally safe, but there are a few things to keep in mind. First, always wear your seatbelt. It's the law, and the police do enforce it.
Speed limits are strictly enforced too. In towns, it's usually 40-50 km/h, and on open roads, it's 60-80 km/h.
Alcohol is prohibited while driving. Be extra cautious when driving at night, especially on mountain roads. Wildlife and unmarked hazards can surprise you.
Headlights need to be turned on 24 hours a day. This is mandatory. Also using smartphones during driving is strictly prohibited.
Children under 12 years must be in a child seat/booster or in back seats.
